The government work reports of 21 provinces and municipalities mention Blockchain, with diverse application directions.

The status of Blockchain in the Chinese government's work report has significantly improved

The two sessions in various provinces and cities in 2020 have concluded. By sorting through the government work reports of 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, it was found that 21 places mentioned Blockchain technology in their reports, a significant increase compared to 3 in 2019 and 1 in 2018. This change is closely related to the central government's high regard for Blockchain technology in October 2019.

Blockchain application directions are increasingly diversified

Compared to previous years, the government report in 2020 presents a more specific and clear description of Blockchain. 11 provinces and cities have listed Blockchain alongside emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things as important means to promote the development of the digital economy. Some regions have also reflected the idea of "Blockchain+", integrating Blockchain with specific scenarios. For example:

  • Jilin Province explores the application of Blockchain in fields such as social credit and agricultural product traceability.
  • Shanxi Province proposes to use Blockchain to assist rural revitalization
  • Gansu Province emphasizes expanding the application of Blockchain in fields such as non-ferrous metals and cultural tourism.
  • Tianjin has included Blockchain in its technology enterprise cultivation plan.

Blockchain + Government Services Become Highlights

In specific applications, the practicality of Blockchain + government services is strong. The four provinces and cities of Fujian, Gansu, Jiangxi, and Beijing particularly emphasize this direction in the report. Among them:

  • Fujian promotes "On-chain Government Affairs" project
  • Jiangxi builds the "Ganfu Tong" platform
  • Beijing and Gansu have completed the relevant project bidding.

Blockchain Support Beyond Government Reports

Although some local government reports do not mention Blockchain, relevant departments are still actively promoting the development of Blockchain:

  • Kunming City has introduced policies to provide a maximum subsidy of 10 million yuan for blockchain demonstration projects.
  • Heilongjiang Province is collecting Blockchain application cases and conducting special research.
  • Although Zhejiang Province was not mentioned in the report, it has introduced multiple support policies.

Overall, the position of blockchain in the work of governments across China has significantly improved, with more diverse application directions and related support policies being continuously refined and implemented. In the future, blockchain is expected to play an important role in more fields.
