Mark Cuban loses 175,000 USDC and thousands of cryptocurrencies in a hack.
✅ Cryptocurrency theft is equivalent to more than $870,000.
✅ Cuban believes he downloaded a hacked version of #MetaMask
American businessman and billionaire investor Mark Cuban lost hundreds of thousands of cryptocurrencies last night in a hack of his MetaMask #wallet .
Cuban found out about the theft after the press consulted him about this hack that had been detected and reported via Twitter by the chain researcher with the pseudonym Wazzcrypto.
After checking his wallet, Cuban confirmed to the press that a hacker stole more than 870,000 dollars (USD) from him on #Criptomonedas This includes 175,043 USD Coin (USDC), 12,354 Polygon (MATIC), 697,478 SuperRare (RARE) and 16,671 BitDAO (BIT) , among others, according to explorer #Etherscan
The investor revealed that the hack occurred after searching for his wallet on Google to download it instead of on the company's official website. “I'm pretty sure I downloaded a version of MetaMask with some shit on it,” he said.
“I went to MetaMask for the first time in months. “They must have been watching,” Cuban added, referring to the hacker.
As CriptoNoticias has detailed, MetaMask is a browser wallet, and some scammers create fake extensions or applications for it, tricking users into providing their private keys or seed phrases. That way, once these malicious actors gain access, they can withdraw your cryptocurrencies.
It should be noted that this type of scam is not inherent to MetaMask. It can also be applied to other wallets and platforms, so it is essential to always make sure you enter the official application and do not provide private data to anyone.
👀 ALWAYS BE PENDING AND ATTENTION, THE HACKERS DO NOT STOP👀
